Christof Stein and Dagmar Moser Co-owners of Lichterloh, the distinguished Viennese furniture store
Lichterloh roughly translates to "in flames," playing on the firm's function as a seller of lamps while conveying the trailblazing of its owners.
It is very important to us to show that Austria still has a lot of geniuses. It didn't end with Art Nouveau. It didn't end with Koloman Moser, Joseph Hoffmann or the Wiener Werkstätte. In the 20th century, for example, there was Josef Frank. The Nazis threw him out of Austria. Nobody knows that he was the architect who made the official wedding present for the Queen of Denmark. If it were a French or Italian guy, you'd learn about it in school...We are the country of Sigmund Freud and of some very special people, and you can really feel it in our furniture. It is not only Mozart, the empire and Sissy. It's also fantastic design and gorgeous material mix.
Christof Stein and Dagmar Moser have shared with Markus Pernhaupt the prestigious Viennese furniture business Lichterloh for almost 20 years. Lichterloh roughly translates to "in flames," playing on the firm's function as a seller of lamps while conveying the trailblazing of its owners. The company, which is located in Vienna's Sixth district, started out dealing with classic furniture originals from Austria and lately expanded their repertoire to include originals from other European countries. Lichterloh is proud of its rich cultural heritage and sees as one of its main missions to open up Austria's legacy to the world. Among the famous mid-century Austrian designers that Lichterloh aims to promote are Karl Aubock, Roland Rainer and Walter Bosse.
